CLEVELAND — The debates about what ails the University of Toledo men’s basketball program are endless at this time of year.
Once again, the discussions arrived at the Mid-American Conference tournament. Four consecutive outright regular-season championships. Four consecutive exits from the MAC tournament.
That UT only advanced to one title game during its unprecedented regular-season success is just as unfathomable as not winning the tournament. Only Southern Illinois was a 1-seed in its conference tournament four straight seasons (2002-05) without winning it. The Salukis, however, had a luxury Toledo didn’t: the Missouri Valley is a multi-bid league.
