CHEROKEE, N.C. — There will come a time in February or March when the Toledo Rockets look back to the Cherokee Invitational and identify the two-day championship as a turning point in what seems to be a promising debut season for head coach Ginny Boggess.
Uncertainty was the operative word entering the season. Or perhaps upheaval.
The University of Toledo women’s basketball program had been wrapped in a pretty bow for 16 seasons. Then, veteran head coach Tricia Cullop’s departure for Miami created doubt about the future. Suddenly, the three-time defending Mid-American Conference champions were unsure about their place in the women’s college basketball landscape.
