The University of Toledo’s game at Akron on Tuesday will not impact the Mid-American Conference championship game.
For the first time since 2021, the Rockets will not be in Detroit to play for the conference title.
But the Akron game still has meaning for UT. An 8-4 record is only one win different than 7-5. The perception, however, is a wide gulf.
Yes, the Rockets were blown out in the Glass Bowl by archrival Bowling Green, which could win the MAC championship. And they laid ostrich eggs against Buffalo and Ohio. But 8-4 with a convincing win at Mississippi State for a team with a below-average offensive line and nonexistent run game is a season most MAC programs would take every year.
