SAN DIEGO — On Saturday, Toledo was less than three minutes away from a win that would have been filled with relief.
The Rockets trailed San Diego State almost the entire game, withstood an injury to quarterback Dequan Finn, and had an uninspiring performance through three quarters. Despite all of that, they looked like the better team.
Whoever lost was going to think that they should have won, which heightened the angst in the final minutes. The winner was going to feel like they committed theft or a Houdini escape act, coming out victorious in a game it had no business winning.
