The complete performance that’s been lacking for the Toledo Rockets finally came in Game No. 5, and it couldn’t have occurred at a better time for the hometown team.
Coming off consecutive losses and facing one of the Mid-American Conference’s favorites, UT played a lights-out first half and then put the clamps down when Central Michigan threatened in the fourth quarter.
It amounted to a 38-17 win for the Rockets and a look-at-us-now announcement to the rest of the conference.
Central Michigan coach Jim McElwain put it succinctly: “They kicked the [crap] out of us.”
The next challenge is sustaining the positive momentum.
