RICHMOND, Va. — Mid-major college basketball programs only get so many opportunities to win compelling nonconference games, especially on the road.
Toledo (7-3) found itself in that exact situation Saturday night at Richmond, surging to a 13-point lead in the opening minutes, 41-24 at halftime, and 19 points in the second half.
The Spiders (6-4) are a fundamentally sound, veteran group that is expected to make the NCAA tournament this season and challenge St. Bonaventure for Atlantic-10 supremacy. Their four losses this season are nothing to frown about — Maryland, Mississippi State, and mid-major darlings Utah State and Drake.
