DETROIT — A six-day span during the third week of January in 2020 could prove to be one of the most impactful timeframes in Toledo football’s recent history.
After consecutive seasons of less than desirable results — 7-6 in 2018, 6-6 in 2019 — head coach Jason Candle needed to make changes.
Senior safety Tycen Anderson isn’t shy about letting his feelings known.
“We were terrible on defense,” he said Tuesday. “We just weren’t good.”
The staff was overhauled as Toledo parted ways with defensive coordinator Brian George and linebackers coach Mike Ward. But Candle wasn’t looking for a quick fix by hiring two up-and-comers from directional schools.
