AUSTIN — Sometime between now and next season, maybe Kliff Kingsbury and David Gibbs can cobble together a defense.
Sometime between now and then, too, Kingsbury will have to find a replacement for Jakeem Grant, the new Texas Tech record holder for career receiving yards, and the indomitable DeAndre Washington, who showed you can put up big rushing yards in a passing offense.
Oh, and Kliff will have to build an offensive line and a defensive line from scratch.
Those are chores he can worry about next week.
For now, he’s too busy grinning.
On a soggy Thanksgiving night, Kingsbury and Tech beat Texas 48-45 for the program’s first victory in Austin since 1997.
