Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes entered the spring football season without competition looking over his shoulder.
Former quarterback Davis Webb is no longer with the program. Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury would prefer to redshirt Mansfield Lake Ridge standout Jett Duffey and Nic Shimonek is nursing an injury.
"Really outside of quarterback there's not another position where you're just saying, 'alright, he's the starter,'" said Kingsbury, "which is fun for us because everybody's having to battle for every position, so we've got the quarterback figured out and we're trying to figure out the rest of them."
With such freedom heading into his junior campaign and an offense known for prolific passing numbers, could Mahomes have an opportunity to become the first Red Raider to win the Heisman Trophy?
