Malik Jenkins turned 14 during the fall of 2008 as Texas Tech soared to No. 2 in the national polls and an 11-2 season.

“It was a good experience to watch him,” Jenkins recalled this week, “and after that Texas win (a 39-33 Tech victory) and amazing season they had, I was like, ‘Man, if I ever had the opportunity to play college football and I got offered by Tech, I’ll show up.
