Zach Austin set a pre-game goal both simple and modest: To do his job well enough so people around him could flourish.
Nothing too ambitious for a former walk-on receiver with zero career catches.
Instead, Austin outshined everyone. The Texas Tech sophomore, starting only because Ian Sadler got hurt the week before, came through with eight catches, 110 yards and a touchdown Saturday in a 63-35 loss to Baylor.
“Some of these routes we run, they’re not really even supposed to go to me,” Austin said Monday. “But it’s about trusting that the other person is doing their job, whether it’s running off this (defender) or blocking this guy so this guy can be open.
