Texas Tech safety Jah’ Shawn Johnson has been named the Big 12 defensive player of the week for his performance against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The native of Ennis, Texas recorded 16 tackles and forced a game-clinching turnover when he ripped the ball from the hands of Arkansas running back Alex Collins late in the fourth quarter.

The 5-foot-10 redshirt freshman has been impressive in his first year as a starter for Texas Tech. In three games, Johnson has averaged eight tackles per game.
