Any other player on the 1976 Texas Tech football team probably remembers beating Texas A&M at Kyle Field for the game itself.
Tech middle linebacker Gary McCright remembers it for the 24 hours after the game — lying in bed, dog tired, his wife going into labor and getting up to whisk her to the nearest delivery room.
“I was cool, calm, collected,” McCright said Thursday. “I took her to the hospital, parked in the doctor’s parking spot, left my lights on and locked my keys in the car.”
That was Oct. 10, 1976. Johnathan Gary McCright just turned 40 this week, his father noted.
