Texas Tech’s much maligned defense showed up in a big way on Saturday for their best defensive performance since the game against Texas Christian earlier in the year. David Gibbs’ effect on the defense was extremely noticeable against Kansas State as Texas Tech played soundly and contained the Wildcat offense for nearly the entirety of the game.
Here’s how Texas Tech’s defensive position groups graded out against Kansas State:
Mike Smith’s defensive line routinely found ways to pressure Kansas State’s Joe Hubener, making the Wildcat quarterback uncomfortable and forcing him into bad decisions. Players like Branden Jackson and Rika Levi will be sorely missed by the Texas Tech defense, but perhaps it was a relatively new player, Gary Moore, that made the most important defensive play of the game for the Red Raiders.
