For the second straight week, Texas Tech's starting quarterback is unknown.
Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury said in a Big 12 teleconference on Monday Carter's status is uncertain for next week's game vs. UT-San Antonio after suffering a high-ankle sprain in a season-opening loss to Ole Miss on Saturday.
Kingsbury said the team will take the next couple of days to evaluate him.
Freshman Alan Bowman replaced him on Saturday and completed 29 of his 49 passes for 273 yards and one touchdown.
Kingsbury opted for Bowman over sophomore Jett Duffey, who was expected to be a frontrunner for the starting job.
