The Red Raiders were known for their kicking woes. After losing Clayton Hatfield for six weeks due to a hip injury, there was a drop off in the kicking game. Michael Barden took over the reigns and did well on XP's (23/24), but could not find his groove on field goals (4/8). The same went for Hatfield once he returned from injury. He went 22-22 on XP's, but 6-10 on field goals.
It is possible the hip flexor was still lingering for Hatfield once he returned. He will be back in uniform for the Red Raiders for the 2018 season, so there is reason to be optimistic about the kicking game returning to form.
