Texas Tech will have a full football staff of nine assistant coaches for upcoming bowl preparations, athletic director Kirby Hocutt said Thursday, even though some might be temporary fill-ins for the three assistants fired in the past week.
Some of the logical candidates are graduate assistant Sam Fehoko and defensive quality control staff members Matt Brock and Brett Dewhurst. Hocutt said director of player development Emmett Jones is another who could get consideration.
“They would be options to seek NCAA waivers to allow up to nine assistant coaches on the practice field,” Hocutt said. “Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury will continue to look at that and decide who he wants to put on the field up until the time the new assistants are hired.
