On Monday, Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury said Justin Murphy is retiring from football.
Kingsbury said Murphy made the decision on Sunday.
When asked what the reason was for Murphy's retirement, Kingsbury said he was 'unsure on how to phrase the retirement.'
"I guess his injuries," Kingsbury said when asked about Murphy, "you'll have to take that up with him."
Murphy played in five games last season but was sidelined for the rest of the season because of an injury sustained against Baylor on Oct. 3.
This season, Murphy has played in nine games and has started in eight of those appearances.
