ANAHEIM, Calif. -- In his one season at Texas Tech as a graduate transfer from St. John's, Tariq Owens has already set a school record for blocks.
Two of his biggest may have come in the final four minutes, both against Gonzaga standout Rui Hachimura.
After David Moretti's 3-pointer gave Tech a 63-58 lead with less than four minutes to play, Owens denied Hachimura in the lane.
Then with Tech up 68-62, Owens swatted a corner 3-pointer by Hachimura, then leaped to save the ball to a teammate. Replays showed Owens had stepped out of bounds before touching the ball but the play stood, a key turnaround and one of the most athletic plays in the tournament.
