The Texas Tech football program is welcoming two local high school prospects to join the team as preferred walk-on players next season according to the Lubbock Avalanche Journal. Kirby Vinson from Lubbock’s Cooper High School and Colt Garret from Lubbock’s Roosevelt High School will both be joining the Red Raider football team in the fall.
Vinson is a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end who had 55 tackles, eight sacks, two fumble recoveries, three passes defended and a forced fumble in 2015 for the Pirates.
While walk-on players are an afterthought for almost every fan, Texas Tech will have a former walk-on playing a significant role on the 2016 defensive line.
