At this point, almost nobody would bat an eye if you were to say that former Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the best signal-caller in the NFL right now. Even the other contenders for that distinction – Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals and Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills – understand that Mahomes is one of one. In fact, if Mahomes were to never play another snap in the NFL, he would still have a strong case to enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the first ballot.
But once upon a time, Mahomes was an overlooked prospect, as Texas Tech was one of the only FBS colleges to give Mahomes a football scholarship.
