On Sunday afternoon the Texas Tech football program offered a scholarship to Odessa (Texas) Permian H.S. defensive back Desmon Smith. The three-star recruit who decommitted from Texas State in August has been on Tech’s radar for quite a while.
After the past two weeks of defensive futility Tech fans have been clamoring for better play in the secondary and Smith might fight the bill.
At 6-foot-3 and 191-pounds, the 2016 prospect has the physical traits to be the type of defensive back Texas Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs needs. As a junior in 2014, he recorded 70 tackles and four interceptions.
