Texas Tech football notes: Cantrell taking charge

Texas Tech offensive coordinator Eric Morris said junior flanker Dylan Cantrell has been ranked as the team’s No. 1 receiver on in-house coaching staff ballots over the past month, which is why he’s emerged as a starter.

“He’s been the most consistent wideout we’ve had throughout the whole fall camp,” Morris said during Monday’s weekly football press conference.

Cantrell, forced into action as a true freshman, caught nine passes two years ago and 20 passes for 312 yards last season.

Reginald Davis, also a junior, battled him for the starting job.

He knows

Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said the man who’ll start at quarterback for the Red Raiders in Saturday’s season opener knows he’s the No.
