Often, fans underestimate the importance of the assistants working in support of the head coach. That is especially true once you get past the level of the coordinators. That’s why Wednesday’s news that Matt Wells has added former Texas defensive coordinator Todd Orlando to his coaching staff is significant. Stepping into a role as assistant head coach and linebackers coach after three years running the defense in Austin, the highly-respected coach is an upgrade for the Red Raider coaching staff.
