Senior guard Devaugntah Williams‘ 26 points helped the Texas Tech basketball team pull out a season-opening victory against the High Point Panthers. The Red Raider- Panther match was closer than expected for much of the night as Texas Tech struggled to create any distance early on. Fortunately, Texas Tech was able to pull away late; improving Tubby Smith’s record against his alma mater to 5-0.
Texas Tech was exposed a bit as they struggled last week against West Texas A&M’s barrage of three-pointers. The lackluster perimeter defense once again nearly proved to be the Red Raiders’ undoing as High Point shot 56% from the three-stripe.
