Texas Tech basketball player Jordan Jackson, who played in 23 games last season as a backup, announced Monday he’s leaving the program.

Jackson is a 6-foot-3 guard and a son of former Tech basketball great Sheryl Swoopes and former Brownfield athlete Eric Jackson.

In a statement posted on his Twitter account, Jackson thanked the staff of former Tech coach Tubby Smith “for giving me an opportunity to grow not only athletically but personally and academically.”

He also thanked former Tech Chancellor Kent Hance.

“This was not an easy decision,” Jackson wrote, “but, after careful consideration with my family and previous coaches, I have decided to transfer from Texas Tech University and pursue my athletic and academic career elsewhere.
