Texas Tech offensive guard Justin Murphy is out for the season and preparing for knee surgery, Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury said Tuesday, a not-unexpected development since Murphy got hurt in an Oct. 3 game against Baylor.
The 6-foot-6, 298-pound redshirt freshman from Belton started the second through fifth games of the season.
Kingsbury said Murphy is going through rehabilitation on his right knee to prepare for surgery.
Coincidentally, Murphy’s misfortune opened the door for Tony Morales, a senior who, up until this season, had not played because of injuries. Morales was penalized three times in the Baylor game for false starts, but settled in during last week’s win against Iowa State.
