Every year since 2013, Texas Tech assistant coach Mike Smith has said he needs to develop better depth so as not to wear out pass rusher Pete Robertson.
And every year, Robertson winds up playing more than Smith prefers.
Production from the Red Raiders’ senior rush end isn’t the issue. He led the Big 12 with 12 sacks last season. Still, there’s the ever-present worry he’ll wear down late in games and late in the season.
“Playing in the Big 12, there are times you’re going to get tired and exhausted going against high-powered offenses,” Robertson said Monday, “but we train 24-7, so I train to go up to a hundred plays.
