Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said starting right guard Justin Murphy won’t play this week because of the knee injury he suffered Saturday, and there could be a three-man competition to replace him.
Redshirt freshman Robert Castaneda and senior Emeka Okafor will be in the mix along with senior Tony Morales, Kingsbury said Monday.
The first month of the season, Morales was the only backup line coach Lee Hays had trusted in key game situations. Morales had trouble Saturday, though, after Murphy got hurt in the second quarter of Tech’s 63-35 loss to Baylor.
In discussing Tech’s 17 penalties, Kingsbury alluded to Morales when he said, “We had one guy, I think, who had four or five himself and hadn’t played a lot, and you can’t have that.
