Tech at 1,000: Defining moments - Developing the Double-T

Editor’s Note: With Texas Tech’s 1,000th game coming up today, The Avalanche-Journal is revisiting defining moments in Red Raiders history.

There might be nothing more synonymous with Texas Tech than the Double-T logo. Though the Red Raiders first sported it on their helmets in 1963, the emblem’s been around about as long as the school itself.

One can make only an educated guess as to the person who first conceived the one T overlaying the other, but it dates to at least January 1926 with the Red Raiders’ first coaches, E.Y. Freeland and Grady Higgenbotham, most likely responsible.
