Talbot: Texas Tech defense down but not out

The Texas Tech defense is bleeding from the mouth.

Its eyes are swollen shut.

And that was only the second game of the season.

“We got hit in the mouth Saturday. I come out and say that, we’re not giving any excuses and anything like that,” Texas Tech linebacker Luke Stice said at Monday’s press conference.

And the blows were hard.

Arizona State threw out the 1-2 punch of Kalen Ballage, who was used in the wildcat formation throughout the game, and Demario Richard. The two combined for 246 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground and the Red Raiders didn’t see the haymaker coming until they were already down on the mat.
