Former Mansfield Legacy catcher Nate Rombach will honor his commitment to Texas Tech rather than sign with the Miami Marlins, a source close to the situation told The Dallas Morning News on Monday.
Rombach, The News' Offensive Player of the Year, was selected by the Marlins in the 19th round of June's MLB Draft, but the two sides couldn't agree on a deal, resulting in Rombach choosing to take the college route instead.
The Marlins, like every other Major League team, were allowed a specific amount of bonus money to use on their drafted players.
