Texas Tech’s been in no hurry to replace the FieldTurf at Jones AT&T Stadium and the surface installed in the summer of 2006 is now in its 11th season.
An expert in the field of turf and related injuries indicates the Red Raiders likely have nothing to worry about.
“I would anticipate this turf-field replacement being in the next year or two,” Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt said this month. “We had intentions of replacing it prior to this season.
“Coach (Kliff) Kingsbury asked if we could postpone that project. He likes the speed at which this field plays, so we had FieldTurf come out and go through a number of Gmax testing, which measures the firmness, measures a number of safety-related metrics with this surface, and it’s still within acceptable standards.
