Smith says 15 'effort plays' will earn Moore additional playing time

Texas Tech fans have been eager to see Gary Moore get more playing time for quite some time. Maybe the time’s at hand, based on what he did with extended chance last week.

Defensive line coach Mike Smith said the sophomore defensive end made 15 “effort plays” in Saturday’s 69-20 rout of Texas-El Paso. Smith admitted a moment later it probably wasn’t that many, but reiterated Moore impressed him nonetheless.

Backup defensive linemen played the last five series. Moore was credited with five solo tackles, including a tackle behind the line, and a pass breakup.

“It helped me a lot,” Moore said, “just to let the coaches know that I can play up to the big guys’ standards, to know that I’m capable to stay out there with them and play, so that’s what I tried to do.
