MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – All season long Texas Tech defensive coordinator David Gibbs has said if he was the opposing coach he would run it 50 times against the Red Raiders.
Maybe West Virginia coach Dana Holgorsen heard him.
The Mountaineers ran it 57 times for 300 as they held off Texas Tech 31-26 at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday.
Twice in the final two minutes, all Texas Tech (5-5, 2-5 Big 12) needed was a stop on third down to get a chance to knock off West Virginia.
Both times, Wendell Smallwood ran for the first down.
