Sheryl Swoopes inducted into Naismith Hall of Fame

Former Lady Raider Sheryl Swoopes was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the NCAA Men’s Final Four in Houston, Texas, Monday morning.

Swoopes becomes the first Texas Tech basketball player — men’s or women’s — to achieve this honor.

She was also the first player to be signed by the WNBA.

Her induction comes 23 years to the day after the Lady Raiders’ 1993 NCAA Championship.

Swoopes was the consensus national player of the year in 1993 as she averaged 28.1 points per game.

As a Lady Raider, Swoopes set 30 different women’s basketball records.
