Tyree Range’s college-football aspirations took a hit two years ago when he suffered two torn knee ligaments and a torn cartilage. Now he believes he’s better off.

The 6-foot-1, 225-pound running back just started his freshman season at Riverside (Calif.) City College, and on Tuesday he made an oral commitment to Texas Tech.

“It’s been an amazing recovery,” Range said. “When I first got hurt, I was afraid I wouldn’t be the same guy I was my senior year of high school. Now I feel I’m better and stronger than I was. I’m a better player than I was two years ago when I got injured, and I’m going to a far better school than I would have two years ago out of high school.
