Red Raiders’ success reminds former coach Gerald Myers of ’76 push to final 16

BOSTON -- Back in 1976, Texas Tech needed just one NCAA win to reach the Sweet 16.

The tournament was built much more around big men than guards.

For all the differences, the Red Raiders' current run still stirs memories for Gerald Myers, Tech's coach during that '76 run and later its athletic director.

"It does. It does," said Myers, who accompanied the team to Boston. "I watch Chris [Beard] work with his team and the way he prepares them and all the details he attends to. Sometimes I wonder if I was that detailed, we might have done better.
