Patrick Mahomes didn’t think he had much chance of unseating Davis Webb as Texas Tech’s starting quarterback at this time last year, so he didn’t knock himself out to work hard in preseason practice.
At least that’s what Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury thought, and Mahomes agrees.
He’s determined to not let that happen again this August.
“It’s pretty accurate,” Mahomes said of Kingsbury’s assessment. “I, of course, did not work hard enough. I thought I was working hard enough, but I know now that I wasn’t.
“Now that I know I have a chance, I know how to work and I’m going to work that hard or even harder to try to get a chance to play.
