Opportunities abounded over the past eight months for new signees to help the Texas Tech linebackers corps in a hurry, and that was reinforced Monday.
Not that it was any surprise, but all three of the team’s true freshmen linebackers made the two-deep, one as a starter. In the opening game-week depth chart, freshman Jordyn Brooks and second-semester freshman Johnathan Picone are 1-2 at middle linebacker, and freshman Brayden Stringer is the top backup to D’Vonta Hinton on the weak side.
“There’s no substitute for experience,” Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury said Monday, “but they’re big enough, strong enough and physical enough to play.
