WACO — Texas Tech right-handed pitcher Davis Martin tossed six shutout innings Friday afternoon, leading the 25th-ranked Red Raiders to a 5-0 shutout of Baylor in the Big 12 Conference opener at Baylor Ballpark.
Martin, who is just the first Tech freshman to start a Big 12 opener since current big-leaguer AJ Ramos in 2006, was effective from the beginning, retiring Baylor in order in four of the first five frames.
The Red Raiders continue the series Saturday at 3 p.m. (FOX College Sports).
Baylor (7-10, 0-1 Big 12) placed a runner on second base just twice against Martin – in the fourth and sixth innings.
