Y’all got too hype on the Red Raiders.
College football’s most attractive head coach, Klif Kingsbury, was on top of the world in 2013. On October 19th, his first Texas Tech team was 7-0 and carried a top ten ranking in both polls. They followed that performance with a five-game stretch which saw Tech win zero games, allowed opponents to score 48.6 points per game (up from 18.7 in the first half of the season), and plummet out of the polls.
Buuuuut the Red Raiders blasted sixteenth-ranked Arizona State in the Holiday Bowl and the hype train, as hype trains are wont to do, began churning.
