Three takeaways from Monday’s college sports happenings:
1. Remembering Spike Dykes. He took Texas Tech to seven bowl games and was named conference coach of the year four times (SWC and Big 12) - and that’s far down the list of qualities that people are recalling now. Dykes died early Monday of an apparent heart attack at 79. Sometimes at these moments, the comments sometimes seem obligatory. With Dykes, pretty much all seemed based in affection and respect (and not just from Tech folks) for someone who had a great quote or story for any occasion and never forget his roots.
