After Texas Tech’s second offensive series last Saturday, a sequence in which Patrick Mahomes II got knocked down twice and hit a third time, Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury knew what to do.
Don’t scream at the offensive line.
Don’t tell Mahomes to scramble more.
Call the screen to Justin Stockton.
Sure enough, when the Red Raiders encountered a third-and-10 on the very next series, Tech linemen let Texas-El Paso pass rushers filter into the pocket. Big bodies Jared Kaster and Justin Murphy slipped out to form a convoy, Mahomes flicked a little pass to his right and Stockton made the whole thing click.
