The head coach of the LSU baseball program was honored with the Skip Bertman National Coach of the Year Award Monday night from the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.
“I have the greatest admiration for Skip Bertman,” Mainieri said. “Skip Bertman is actually the athletic director that brought me to LSU. ... I’ve always admired him and looked up to him. When he brought me to LSU, he was a great mentor. To receive an award from him named after him, how do you beat that?
