How Texas Tech's remarkable 2018 March Madness run helped form Red Raiders' new identity for upcoming season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Texas Tech could be excused for wanting to hold onto the 2017-18 basketball season a while longer.

Elite Eight appearances don't happen every season and it took eventual national champion Villanova to derail the Red Raiders. More than 7,000 season tickets have been sold so far, coach Chris Beard said.

At the same time, Beard noted Wednesday at Big 12 media days, none of those accomplishments matter now.

"We don't want last year's success to define us," Beard said. "We want to have our own identity this year."

By necessity, Tech will.
