MINNEAPOLIS -- While Big 12 Player of the Year Jarrett Culver moved to Lubbock when he was 3, he had a different favorite school growing up.
"I came up rooting for Texas, their rival, so that's pretty funny," Culver said before Monday's championship game.
Culver said his father, Hiawatha Culver, was a big Longhorns fan, which spread to him and his older brothers, Trey and J.J.
"We'd go to school, elementary, and everybody had their Tech shirts. We've have our Texas shirts on," Culver said. "It was competitive."
Beyond family allegiance, the fandom made sense.
