Led by two senior guards, the Texas Tech basketball team picked up a victory over the hated Texas Longhorns in the Big 12 opener on Saturday. Devaughntah Williams led Texas Tech with 23 points but it was fellow senior guard Toddrick Gotcher who was the key down the stretch.
With Texas clawing back from what had been a double-digit deficit for most of the game, Gotcher got hot from deep hitting several key three-point shots to keep the Longhorns at bay. The senior from Garland, TX finished with 18 points including four bombs from beyond the ark.
Tubby Smith’s Red Raiders made a statement by knocking off Texas for the first time in 9 games further validating the team’s hot start to the season.
