Heading into its final home and regular season series, the No. 4 Texas Tech baseball team knew it needed to win three straight games in order to claim the Big 12 title.
But, in many respects, the more important number may have been two Thursday night as the Red Raiders faced off against Kansas in Game 1 of a three-game home and regular season finale.
Tanner Gardner, who had not hit a single home run earlier this season, showed he still has power by sending two balls over the outfield fences — going 3 for 4 with four RBIs — as the Red Raiders defeated the Jayhawks 10-6 in front of a sold-out crowd at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.
