On the first day of media availability before Spring practices, Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury announced the departure of Ian Sadler from the program.
Kingsbury said Sadler had been dealing with a knee injury and suffered through it in 2016.
Kingsbury also said Sadler, through the choice of team doctors, decided to step away from the game.
"He's no longer with the program," Kingsbury said. "He played on it all last year, it was in bad shape and he wanted to push through and finish. Doctors orders really."
Kingsbury said Sadler will continue his academic journey at Texas Tech.
